Welcome
Welcome to brianbonner.co.uk a great way to view many of the travels carried out by Brian Bonner. His daughter has now protected his films for the future by creating DVDs of all his presentations so that time will not damage the slides he has taken and so that others can enjoy his experiences. |
He enjoyed photography from a very early age and throughout his life took photographs of many of his journeys both in the United Kingdom and beyond. He created presentations of his travel experiences and was in great demand for local charitable events. |
Brian Bonner
Brian Bonner was born in London in the early 1920s and moved to Yorkshire with his family when the Second World War broke out. He tried to join the army, but was rejected on medical grounds on 2 occasions because he was told his heart was not in the correct place. His only option was to join the Home Guard, which he reluctantly did whilst continuing his employment in the National Provincial Bank.
In the 1950s, he married Leita, a colleague from the bank and had one daughter Pat. During this decade he started to holiday in Switzerland and fell in love with the country and, in particular with the Matterhorn and Zermatt.
This determined man succeeded in climbing the Matterhorn when he was 57 years old, wrote a book about his adventures and continued to travel to new and different places throughout the rest of his life.
